Capturing Dad

In preparation for the Capturing Dad Photography guide that’s now available on my Facebook page Free Download, I sorted through the hundreds of pictures of my husband with the kids. I quickly realized that I need to make sure that I hand over the camera more often because his pictures outnumbered mine 4 to 1! Dad pictures are special. I think Dad’s are at a disadvantage when it comes to kids. After all, we start bonding with our kids as soon as we feel them moving inside us. Dad’s have to work especially hard to make the connections and that makes capturing these moments even more special.

I love the bond that my husband has with my daughter. In fact, they are my favorite subjects to photograph. So here are some of my all time favorite images and some ideas to get you going as you document Dad’s this Father’s Day.

The June Challenge on Rock the Shot Forum (www.rocktheshot.com) is “Dads”. This month I’ve submitted this gallery’s first image. This is a picture that I took about a year into my photography journal. It was shot on Auto and as a JPEG. A simple conversion to black and white sealed the moment and it remains my all time picture. It was captured on my birthday and Katie had just learned how to drink from a straw. You can just see how strong the bond is between Katie and her dad. It’s even stronger today. Be sure to download your Capturing Dads Photography Guide and submit your favorite picture to this great challenge!
